The fragrance line began in Paris in 1994 under Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo. Its first scent rejected a conventional floral brief, setting a pattern of ink, tar, dust, metal, incense and synthetic woods. Collaborations and numbered series keep the catalogue deliberately unsettled.
